Moleben mole cultivators, produced by Moscow MPO im. В.В. Chernyshova, have become widespread among gardeners, who usually buy them complete with rotors, which is enough for processing the soil on individual plots.

Fig. 7,a shows the left side part of the power tiller with the rotors. On the example of this part and let’s analyze some disadvantages of the construction of the Mole, and, more precisely, the disadvantages of its rotors. first of all we should note that the blades of the rotors are very blunt, and the pins that fix the inner rotor to the gearbox shaft and the outer rotor to the inner rotor are too far protruding from the rotor shafts. As a result, roots and plant stems get wrapped around the protruding parts of the pins, which together with the soil clog the space between the inner rotor and the gear housing, as well as between the two rotors. All this creates additional load on the gearbox shaft, and the rotors begin to rotate unevenly.

The spring retainers, which are inserted into the holes in the pins, are also too long, which maximally contributes to winding roots and plants on them with the above-mentioned consequences! Again long beyond the necessary bolts securing the blades to the square flanges of the respective rotors.

I got rid of the first drawback. blunt blades. right after purchasing the Mole, by sharpening them on an emery to fix them on the flanges. The other drawbacks I have revealed after the first spring tillage in 1994 and, of course, eliminated them, which greatly facilitated the further operation of the Mole.

Now a little more detail about the correction of other deficiencies. In Fig. 8, a and b are the diameters of the rotor tubes and the lengths of the pins inserted into the holes of these tubes. You can see that pin 1 projects from the pipe by 9 mm and pin 2 by 11 mm. To drive in the heads of pins, I have made punctures with diameter 15,6 mm and depth 2 mm in pipes of rotors from one side, and have reduced cylindrical parts of pins to length 44 and 36 mm accordingly, having drilled in them through holes with diameter 2 mm at distance 2,5 mm from end faces.

Instead of the former long clamps made of 2.5 mm wire, I made rings (like key rings) out of springy wire with a diameter of 1.5 mm. The ring is inserted with one end into the hole of the pin (fig. 8, c), fixing it on the pipe. In 3 years of operation, there have been no cases of loss of rings during tillage, and the accumulation of roots and soil has practically stopped.

Bolts 7 (see Fig. Fig. I shortened them by 5 mm and screwed on 5 mm nuts (2 mm thinner than they were).

All blades in the place of fastening to the flanges, I have hewn off by 6 mm, as shown in Fig. 9, a and b, so that these edges were flush with the edges of the flanges. Then, I sharpened the knife edges, shaded by crossed lines, at an angle of 45° (if by sharpening the knife we remove metal from one side of it, then by forming the chamfer. from the other side). The flanges of the left-hand rotors (Fig. 9, b and c) I also cut a 45° angle on four sides at a length of 72 mm. At the rotor flanges of the right side of gearbox shaft I have ground edges from the same sides, but I displaced grinding edges to the opposite edge of rib (fig. 9, d the places of such sharpening are opposite the bold lines).

Such modification of blades and flanges eliminated cavities, reduced soil accumulation in them and on the flat edges of the flanges and blades, made it easier to use the tiller.

Frequent malfunctions

When we talk about the repair of the Mole motocultivator, it is worth listing the following breakdowns and ways to fix them:

  • Faulty ignition. a common breakdown of the Mole power tiller. Check the spark plug first. unscrew it and inspect it. A dry spark plug indicates that no fuel mixture is getting into the cylinder. Modernization of the Mole motocultivator

In Russia they have been producing motocultivators of the “Mole” type for a long time. The first model of the MK-1 mole cultivator was designed as a single-purpose machine for tilling soil. By now the technical capabilities of power tillers have been significantly expanded and even a mini forage machine has been developed as a set of machines. Outwardly, motocultivators resemble power tillers and their basic structural units are the same.

Description of KROT motocultivator

The main nodes of the MK-1 (see Fig. Fig.) are the engine with the built-in gearbox (described below), transmission, control system, operating elements, coulter, wheels.

The transmission transmits torque from the single-stage engine gearbox to the working parts and consists of a V-belt drive and a lower two-stage gear. The V-belt transmission also has a clutch function. Operating elements are mounted on the output shaft of the reduction gear.

When the machine is working, the knives loosen the soil, trim the weeds and at the same time contribute to the movement of the tiller, and the hoe on the loosened soil hoes in one pass two adjacent rows on one side of each. Such unit cultivates 0.14 ha/h, which is 18 times more productive than doing similar work manually.

In general, for the modifications of all tillers of “Mole” type, besides the already mentioned for MK-1 work tools, they produce a small plow, mower, semi-trailer with a carrying capacity of 200 kg, and a water pump. A front attachment is developed, which forms a motor carriage when the attachment is connected to the power unit of a motor cultivator. Sprayer, home sawmill and other attachments are designed to be used with this power pack.

MK-2 and MK-3 versions have 320 mm wheel diameter, 90 mm ground clearance, 285 or 600 mm track, 1960X800X1170 mm overall dimensions. MK-2 model has one forward gear, which provides up to 7 km/h speed, weight 50 kg. MK-3 model has two forward gears with travel speed of 4.7 and 7.1 km/h and two reverse gears (2.8 and 4 km/h), weight 60 kg. This model has additional pulley mounting option, and is equipped with rear and front linkage. With the help of a pulley it is possible to drive different small-sized machines, including those used in domestic livestock farming. Rear linkage is used to mount or hitch implements related to the use of tractive force (plow, ogee, semi-trailer, etc.).). The front one is linked and driven via a V-belt drive to implements and machines with active implements (mower, feed mill, pump, etc.).

Improving the KROT power tiller

For higher performance, I propose to set the MK 4-stroke engine manufactured in China LIFAN 160F, with a capacity of 4 hp. In this case, the power of the MC at low rpm is increased. Now it is not necessary to increase engine speed, in order to process ground depth of 20 cm (according to the passport). In addition, the processing depth has increased by 1.5 times at the expense of power to about 30 cm. (before the belt slips). The engine easily copes with this task.

Another big advantage of this change is that the engine starts when cold or hot. The engine speed is automatically maintained at the setpoint. With more power, gasoline consumption has remained approximately the same as that of the regular engine, besides now there is no need to add oil to the gasoline (4-stroke engine).

The new engine can be installed without much effort and without any modifications. Engine mounts fit into place. The pulley is taken from the old engine, a little bit drilled inside the hole and the keyway.

Rather tortured with the old engine, now the new engine gives a completely different emotion when working with a power tiller!
