Do I need to add oil to my chainsaw?
100-200 grams of oil for two-stroke engines on a full tank of diesel. the standard dosage. This quantity of oil is added to improve winter starting and protect mechanical seals from premature wear. It acts as an additional lubricant. But do not be too zealous. Excessive amounts can clog fuel systems and piston/cylinder groups. To avoid this it’s necessary to start from the formula: 10-25 g of oil per 10 liters of diesel fuel.
Important! It is not worth pouring oil into diesel engines with the Common Rail system.
Gasoline should not be mixed with any oil at all. If you do that, it will clog the fuel filter and ruin the fuel supply. If it does come in, it will lead to new problems: the wear of the injectors and the accumulation of the additive in the cylinder. The latter is fraught with water hammer.
The most damaging thing that can happen is sunflower oil. It’ll just turn into olive oil like any other organic. You won’t be able to rebuild a gasoline engine after this. Even draining and diluting with good fuel is unlikely to help. The only thing that could theoretically save it is the concentration. If there was not enough additive in comparison with gasoline, it is still possible to try to resuscitate the vehicle without replacing important parts.
Old diesel engines will run on a mixture of fuel and sunflower oil. The exhaust will change, the smell will become similar to the one that usually hovers around the cheburets. But the experiment makes no sense at all. The additive will cost much more than a normal, reliable additive, and will be of much less use.
Bonding at a molecular level That’s why you should only use special chain oil for the lubrication of chain saw cutting parts. Bio Sage-Kettenoil mineral gear oil is the right choice for the lubrication of saw heads.
Do not use oil for boats and four-stroke engines. Mix petrol and oil in strictly defined proportions. Choose API-TB or API-TC synthetic air-cooled two-stroke oil. Don’t skimp on the ingredients.
How to thin gasoline for chainsaws?
Before pouring fuel into the tank, a gasoline mixture must be prepared. The ratio of oil to gasoline for a chainsaw is regulated in strict proportions. as a rule, they are specified in the instruction manual. In case you do not know how much oil to pour into the gasoline for a domestic chainsaw, it is recommended to use the ratio 1:15. 1:20. Т.е., use 50-70 ml of oil for every 1 liter of petrol.
As for imported equipment, then here the proportions are completely different. For example, how to dilute gasoline with oil for a 2 kW Husqvarna chainsaw? To do this, look at the manual and see that the manufacturer recommends using a ratio of 1:50, i.e.е. no more than 20 ml of oil per liter of gasoline. If there is no passport (it is lost, torn, etc.), it is recommended to use 1:20.e) use the internet or ask your service center to find out exactly how much oil you should put in your gasoline for your chain saw. The increased amount of oil threatens with increased fouling and clogging of the cylinder, which will lead to fractured piston rings and decreased compression, in addition, it is expensive. If the amount of oil for chainsaws in the mixture will be low, it will lead to overheating of the engine and a sharp decline in its resource.
If you don’t know how much oil to pour into a Chinese chainsaw, and you have no passport at hand, the proportion is about 1:25, i.e. 40 ml of oil for 1 liter of gasoline. In general, the amount of oil directly depends on the layout. the more tightly all the nodes are installed, the less oil is needed.
Before you prepare a gasoline mixture for a chainsaw, you must first pour gasoline into the canister, and only then add oil, not otherwise. Otherwise, more viscous oil will stick to the walls and the bottom of the canister and dissolve worse, which will break the correct proportions of gasoline and chain saw oil.
What chain oil to use for a chainsaw chain?
To know exactly what oil to use to lubricate a chainsaw chain, you will need to study the instructions of its manufacturer. Virtually all tool companies recommend pouring in a product that stands out for its highest adhesive properties. This means that the material used to lubricate the chain must have adhesion to the metal surfaces of the chain and bar.
We have to figure out what the adhesive properties of the lubricant are for. Sawing element achieves high speed while the chain is running on the bar. If a chainsaw chain oil with low adhesion is used for lubrication purposes, more than half of the fluid will inertia fly off the upper part of the bar, never reaching the lower part. As a result, such oil will prove ineffective and tire and chain will fail rather quickly because of constant friction.
Benefits of higher priced oils
Brand name chain oils are formulated with useful anti-oxidative, anti-corrosive, stabilizing ingredients and additives that help preserve oil performance and increase wear resistance of the working equipment under severe operating conditions.
Brand name consumables are of premium quality. In most of their own products by the leading manufacturers STIHL, Husqvarna, Echo, DAEWOO and a number of others. In the last couple of years the properties of Chinese chain oils produced by state-owned enterprises have improved noticeably.
Owners of chain saw equipment without the help of others decide what oil to use to lubricate the chain of a chainsaw. In the best case, it is adapted to the local climate and recommended in the model-specific instruction manual.
You could also use the car oil for the electric chainsaw, but I still recommend to use a special oil. The bottom line is that if you use the proper oil, the bar and chain will last longer.
Use only high-quality, TC-class two-stroke engine oil (preferably STIHL two-stroke engine oil. specially formulated for STIHL engines. for longer engine life).
Any chainsaw has different technical data and can do different jobs.
Massive saws are suitable for cutting down century-old trees, chainsaws of small format are more suitable for various household chores:
- Power pack.
- Ignition block.
- Fuel block (oil and fuel tank).
- Filters to clean incoming air.
- Chain brake.
- Tensioning mechanism.
- Element that provides chain lubrication.
For each chainsaw requires high quality fuels and lubricants, they specifically provide a long productive operation of the unit. What kind of gasoline to use for a chainsaw, and in what proportions?
Russian chainsaws are suitable for ordinary oils, foreign chainsaws need more sophisticated fuel consistencies, which have been painstakingly cleaned.
How to prepare a fuel mixture: the oil and gasoline proportion for a chain saw
The chainsaw engine is the “heart” of the machine and it is therefore important that a proper fuel mixture is used.
The fuel mixture for a chainsaw is made of two components. oil and gasoline. Gasoline chainsaws are equipped with a two-stroke engine, so that oil is not added to the lubrication system (as in a four-stroke engine) but directly to the gasoline. It is very important to observe correct proportions of ingredients and of course not to try to work with pure gasoline, because that way you will “kill” the chainsaw very quickly.
The oil must always be intended for two-stroke engines of gardening and forestry equipment (that is, never use oil for boat motors or scooters). As practice shows, you can buy such oil in any store or service center where chainsaws are sold or serviced.
If we talk about what gasoline to fill a chainsaw, it would be optimal to use fuel with the octane number of A-95, in this case, saving on fuel can turn out badly. Often, European manufacturers specify that it is possible to use gasoline A-90 or A-92, but in post-Soviet countries the quality of gasoline is inferior to European, so in our realities it’s better to use high-quality gasoline.
As for the proportion of gasoline-oil mixture itself, everything is simple: you need to clearly follow the instructions of the tool. All chainsaw manufacturers indicate the necessary ratio in the instruction manual or in the passport of the tool, besides, the proportions for filling the chainsaw may differ depending on the model of the chainsaw. as a rule, the oil to petrol ratio in a chainsaw of famous manufacturers is 1:40 or 1:50, which means 1 part oil to 40 parts of petrol, for example.
Now the arithmetic: 1 liter of petrol = 1000 ml of petrol, divide it by 40 and you get 25 ml of oil. If you perform the same actions to the ratio 1:50 you get 20 ml of oil per 1 liter of petrol.
As for budget chainsaws made in China, the situation is a little different. How much gasoline to oil ratio for your chain saw made in China 1:25, that is 1000 ml of gasoline divided by 25, we get 40 ml of oil. The thing is that in brand-name chainsaws the solid build and the distance between pistons and cylinders in the engine is much smaller than in Chinese chainsaws, so the required amount of oil differs by almost a factor of two.
In order to measure the correct portion of oil, use an ordinary medical syringe of sufficient volume.
One more thing. pour the gasoline in the dry gasoline canister first, and then the oil. The procedure on the contrary is fraught with a low quality fuel mixture because the oil is denser and sticks to the bottom of the canister. that’s why there is no way to talk about good blending.
Always prepare fuel mixture in a canister and fill the fuel tank with already prepared special fuel! Never cook or mix it directly in the fuel tank of the chainsaw!
If the question of how to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw is solved, then and about the conditions of storage and shelf life of the fuel mixture it is worth saying a few words. It is best and easiest to prepare a gasoline-oil mixture for 1 liter of gasoline, it is recommended to do this immediately before working with the tool. The fuel tanks of chain saws have a capacity of 0.3 to 1 liter. In conditions of domestic use for one session is rarely used the entire volume of the prepared combustible mixture, so the remainder can be stored until the next session of work. The fuel mixture should be stored in a special canister for gasoline, in a dark, dry place. It is optimal to calculate that time to store the blend in the tank is 7-10 days
The reason is that now the oil on the market is not synthetic, but organic, i.e. natural. After 10 days all lubricating properties are lost, gasoline simply “eats” the oil. Of course you can’t use so much oil, it could break your chain saw.
At the end of work it is necessary to drain the fuel mixture and start the chainsaw. the tool will stall (so that the saw has a dry carburetor) and now you can leave it until the next session of operation.
Add 400 ml of oil to 10 liters of petrol for the run-in period of the outboard. After the run-in period of the boat motor, add 200 ml of oil. oil per 10 liters of gasoline.
As a rule, the ratio of oil to petrol for a well-known chainsaw manufacturer is 1:40 or 1:50, which means one part oil to 40 parts petrol, for example. Now let’s do the arithmetic: 1 liter of gasoline = 1000 ml of gasoline, divide by 40 and you get 25 ml of oil.
Chainsaw Basics: Fuel and Oil
Why chainsaws need to be filled with a mixture of gasoline and oil
Why it’s prohibited to fill the tank of your machine with gasoline without oil, and what will happen if you make a mistake? The reason why it is necessary to dilute gasoline and oil is hidden in the fact that two-stroke motors do not have an oil chamber, as on four-stroke devices. The absence of this chamber results in the rotating and rubbing metal parts of the engine not being lubricated, so the following disadvantages are observed:
- The friction force increases, which means that parts wear out quickly.
- The temperature rises due to the friction force, which also negatively affects the operating life of the internal combustion engine.
- The load increases, so there is a significant loss of power and performance.
Oil is added to the chainsaw‘s gasoline to prevent the development of the above processes. If you fill the tank of the unit with pure gasoline, and start the engine, then in a short period of time it simply overheats and jams. That is why when buying a tool it is important not only to find out how to start and work with a chainsaw, but also to understand the ratios of the gasoline-oil connection.
Working proportions of fuel mixture
The standard ratio of gasoline to oil in the fuel mixture for chainsaw carburetor engines of different models is 40:1 and 50:1. Such proportion provides proper lubrication of friction parts of the crank mechanism and piston group, and does not prevent complete combustion of the gasoline-air mixture.
in consideration of external factors the fuel mixture may be adjusted in the direction of increasing the amount of oil. Such a need arises during the running-in phase of a new tool, as well as when the air temperature is high. In such a case the standard dosage of oil is increased by 20%.
In practice, it is used to increase the percentage of oil in the fuel mixture if its characteristics do not fully meet the stated requirements. How much oil per liter of gasoline is needed in each case is determined by the sawmiller himself.
