How to distinguish the accusative from the genitive case of animate nouns.

The accusative case denotes that an object is subjected to an action entirely, that the action is “transferred” to it or that it occurs or is destroyed as a result of that action: chopping wood, building a house, meeting my brother and sister, drinking tea, doing the laundry, seeing a hero, pilots, astronauts, digging potatoes.

The genitive case (as opposed to the accusative case) shows that the action is not transferred to the whole object, but to a part of it: I drank the water, I took the sugar, I bought the loafaa (t. е. not all water, not all sugar, not all loaf).

The same case denotes an object from which one is removed, which one is deprived (avoided danger, hit, deprived of a hand). or an object, the presence of which is denied: I didn’t take a rifle, a loaf, no book, a notebook.

The genitive case of nouns is widely used for. case. It can denote a whole from which a part is taken (a glass of water, a piece of pie). belonging of an object (sister’s handkerchief). the object of the action (writing a letter). signs of an object (person of a word, deed, day of parting).

The accusative case of nouns is replaced by the genitive case: looking for a book. searching for a book, waiting for my brother. waiting for my brother, digging potatoes. digging potatoes.

Answer different questions and have different auxiliary words. Genitive. no whom? what? table, mother, earth, mouse. Accusative. see who? what? table, mother, earth, mouse. When determining the case of a noun in a text, be sure to ask both questions (to the animate and inanimate).

The genitive coincides with the accusative in an animate question and the accusative coincides with the nominative in an inanimate question.

To see (whom? what? ) bear. win. den (whom? what? whose? ) a bear, a nightingale singing, (whom? what? whose? ). Genus. listening to the nightingale, (whom? what? ). wine. brother’s friend (who? what? ). kind of take a picture of (whom )? what? ) brother (vin. ( who ) a friend (? what? ). genus to put (whom? what? ) a notebook (vin. ) on (who? at what? ) table.wine. catch a rabbit (who? what?). (whom) to frighten the hare, (whom? what? ) vin. iron the laundry, ( whom? what?). wine. mop the floor. (whom? what?). vin.

The question, as I understand it, is how to distinguish the genitive case from the accusative case when the word is spelled the same way in both cases and answers the same question.

I don’t like (whom? ) cats. In our house there is no (who? ) cats.

Try replacing the word “cats” with some other, inanimate. Then they will answer different questions:

I don’t like (what? ) semolina. Our house doesn’t have (what? ) of semolina.

It is clear that in the first sentence the case is accusative, but in the second it is accusative. genitive. Accordingly, the word “cats” stands in the same sentences in the same cases, because replacing a noun will not change the grammatical structure of the sentence.

Here’s how this technique works in your example

To see the manna (B) to den the manna (R) to sing the manna (R) to listen to the manna (B) to photograph the manna (B) to put the manna (R) on the manna (B) to catch the manna (B) to scare the manna (B) to pet the manna (B) to wash the manna (B)

Shall we make some coffee??

Parents were away from their computers. The question was posed by a third-grade daughter, with a Russian textbook in her hands.

Mom and dad looked at each other, then at their daughter, then at the textbook.

Yes, that’s what it said in the textbook: “to make coffee.”. what case of a noun? And here we go. Dictionaries. Reference books. Online Dictionaries. Then calls to friends. Dative. to whom? What? “coffee.”. But what does the dative have to do with it?? Accusative, genitive. No, it can’t be. Confusion, despair: we humans with higher education cannot determine the case of a word!

Calm down, parents. Let’s leave aside the question for the compilers of the third-grade textbook. And we will try to reassure you, adults: it is not the easiest task, and if you graduated from school long ago, you do not need to think about case forms of nouns every day. I don’t think you remember that there are six cases. And if I were to tell you that there could be more.

Yes, yes, linguists have reason to believe that there are more than six cases in Russian. Take the genitive case for example: tea, sugar, kofeek (from kofeek). is the “classical” genitive. But there are forms within the same case with a special ending.у.y and with the meaning of a limited quantity: a cup of tea, add sugar, boil some coffee. You can also find different forms within the prepositional case: told about the airport. met at the airport, longed for home. work at home. Forms with an ending.y (at the airport, at home, in the forest, on the shore) is called the “local case” by linguists, because it usually refers to the place of action.

Now what? There are eight cases in Russian, not six?! Don’t panic, parents. There are six cases. Only some nouns have double forms. Therefore, “chayu/chayku,” “caffeiku,” “pesku,” “saccharu.”. is the genitive case, but with a special meaning: of limited.

Declension of numerals

Difficulties in the formation of numerals, and their use in speech primarily related to their case changes and combinations with nouns.

The majority of numerals are declined in the third declension.

The numeral thousand changes as a noun of the first declension.

The numerals forty and one hundred have in the indirect cases only one form, forty, one hundred.

In the declension of compound ordinal numerals, only the last part of the number changes. д.) may only be used with masculine nouns, infant nouns, or plural nouns.

Combinations of compound numerals ending in two, three, four, with nouns having no singular form are not allowed. Only combinations such as twenty-one days, twenty-five days are possible.

The numerator pronoun both has two generic forms: both is masculine and neuter, both is feminine. The same is true of the numeral one and a half.

Declension of Adjectives

Adjectives are parts of speech that denote a characteristic of the object and answer the questions what?, what?, what?, which? The adjective stands in the same case, number and gender as the noun it depends on.

Adjectives in the singular change in gender and case. The gender of plural adjectives is not specified.

For plural adjectives, the gender cannot be determined.
