Gasoline and lawnmower oil ratio

Fuel mixture for two-stroke engines

Grass trimmers, which are equipped with a two-stroke motor, do not have a separate system designed for oil supply in order to lubricate the rubbing parts. For this reason, such devices should not be filled with pure gasoline, but with a mixture of fuel and engine oil. The latter must be specifically designed for two-stroke engines. The use of automobile engine fluid will lead to premature engine failure.

Update Lawnboy Vid and How To Prepare a 32:1 Gas/Oil Mix Ratio

Fuel your two-stroke lawnmower with AI-92 gasoline. Using AI-95 can cause overheating of the engine and uneven machine performance. Gasoline and oil should be mixed in the proportion 50:1, where 50 is fuel and 1 is oil. It turns out that you need 20 ml of oil per 1 liter of fuel.

50:1 Fuel to oil ratio easy way to calculate

If the motor is worn out or the tool works with a high load, the proportion is 25:1. If there is not enough lubricant, scoring will occur on the cylinder walls and piston surface. The piston ring is then destroyed, causing the engine to seize up. Too much is not that critical, but it can lead to carbon deposits. The piston ring will get caked, which will reduce the power of the device.

The functioning of the two-stroke unit is different from the four-stroke engines: the lubrication of the rubbing surfaces in the crankshaft and other parts of the unit is not performed from the crankcase, but through oil, which was previously diluted with gasoline. The general rule for two-stroke engines is that gasoline is diluted with a certain volume of oil intended for that purpose.

Fuel mixture is mixed in special proportions.

Dilute gasoline with a lubricant component will have to be first in a suitable container: doing it immediately in the fuel tank is forbidden. If you ignore this rule, the operation of the motor may be inconsistent, as a result of which the tool will quickly fail. To dilute the fuel mixture, do not use plastic canisters or bottles, because gasoline can dissolve this synthetic material. Order of mixing fuel:

  • Pour a liter of gasoline into a container (ideally a metal canister).
  • Add half of the required proportion of oil.
  • Mix fluids thoroughly, away from open flames.
  • Pour the rest of the lubricant into the container and stir the mixture again.
  • Pour fuel into the fuel tank of the grass trimmer.

Wear a respirator and rubber gloves to work. You can use a watering can for easy pouring. Do not keep the ready mixture longer than 3 months, it is better to dilute exactly as much fuel as you need for the planned work in the nearest future. Be sure to choose high-quality oil for mixing with gasoline, it is better to buy it at a trusted gas station.

Oil and fuel proportions

Calculation of the ratio of ingredients for preparing fuel for grass trimmer should take into account the recommendations on the oil package. Standard proportion is 1:50. Any 2-stroke oil of good quality may be used.

How to mix oil with gasoline for a two-stroke engine

The peculiarity of two-stroke engines is that the fuel is filled into the tank together with oil. Before operating the equipment each filling requires the fuel mixture to be prepared in accordance with the proportions. How to do it right? From our article you will learn how to dilute gasoline for chainsaws, grass trimmers and other garden tools.

Purpose

Without this substance, the engine will run, as they say, “dry”. But experience shows that such mode leads to fast wear of friction parts and burnout.

The engine oil performs several functions:

  • Minimizes friction between the parts in contact. in essence it is a lubricant;
  • prevents quick wear and tear by minimizing friction losses
  • dissipates heat, keeping the surface of the parts at an acceptable temperature
  • Reduces vibration and, therefore, contributes to the reduction of noise from the running engine;
  • acts as a cleaning system.

Why buy grass trimmers?

Comparing with similar mechanisms, give preference in the choice of brushcutters on the following functional indicators:

  • The mobility and low weight of the unit, allowing to carry it over distances, use it in hard-to-reach places for mowing.
  • Versatility. The lawnmower is equipped with a node for changing the working elements directly during the work of the unit.
  • Constructive simplicity that allows the lawn mower to be used for a long time without frequent adjustments.

These, other positive characteristics, give buyers the confidence that by purchasing a trimmer for grass, make the right choice.

What gasoline to fill

Gasoline for grass trimmer should be chosen unleaded with the tact number 92 or 95. As practice shows, gasoline AI-80 can cause device failures, which is a questionable economy.

The fuel must be fresh, that is, after purchase it can be stored for no more than 60 days.

Other factors affect the quality of fuel, e.g. use of special lawnmower lubricant and diluting it in a separate container. It is also advisable to use special fuel cans which are specially made for storing gasoline.

How to mix (thin) gasoline and oil for 2T engines.

To recap, add the following to the above summary. Use for your brand-name equipment the oil designed or recommended by the manufacturer of the equipment. For the STIHL FS 55 brushcutter, for example, STIHL HP lubricant (see lithium-based manual oil) is recommended. Figure 1a) or STIHL HP SUPER, for the Husqvarna 128R brushcutter use Husqvarna HP oil (Figure 1b) or Husqvarna LS. For 2.Do not use 4-stroke motor oils for your engines. For example 10W30, SAE 30 etc.д.

Useful hint

Observe the proportions of oil and gasoline for the fuel mixture specified by the manufacturers in the instruction manual. Chinese manufacturers most often mention 1 part oil to 25 parts gasoline, and STIHL and Husqvarna specifies 1:50.When preparing a small volume of mixture (up to 1 liter), it is very important to carefully measure the amount of oil in the mixture. You could make big differences in the mixture even if you do not use the correct amount of oil. In these cases a medical syringe can be used for accurate dosing.Mixture preparation should be done in a clean, approved container. (see Figure 2). figure 2)

Useful tip

Plastic canisters designed for gasoline are always marked with the “flame” sign. It is very convenient to use a canister with a no-fill system (see “Using a Canister with a No-Fill System” on page 13). figure 3). The spill-free system has a valve that prevents fuel from spilling when the tank is full.

How to mix

If you do not have the graduated graduated measuring jerry can that comes with any noteworthy grass trimmer, or if you lose one, use any suitable container. Glass or metal is best. You can also use plastic, but you must choose a bottle with rigid walls.

The container must be a multiple of 1 liter. You can also use a 1.5 liter bottle, but practice shows that it is not very convenient. You also need a medical syringe, preferably 20 to 50 milliliters. First you fill up the container with petrol, then you add exactly measured amount of oil (by volume). Procedure must not be changed.

If you have “pre mix” oil, close the bottle or canister with the cap and turn it upside down several times and shake it vigorously. If the oil is “self-mixed,” it will dissolve on its own. The prepared mixture must be used within a day. If you know how much fuel a grass trimmer uses for a certain amount of work (or time), it’s easy to calculate the amount of mixture. Otherwise, dilute new fuel before each refueling so that there is a minimum amount left before the end of the run.

Choosing a gasoline brand for trimmers

Select the brand of gasoline for trimmers should be based on the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you don’t follow these, your engine will soon break down. Often unleaded fuel with an octane rating of 92 or 95 is used to fill the gas tank of a grass trimmer.

Gasoline for the fuel mix

Filling the grass trimmer with gasoline AI-80 can lead to device failures due to its low technical characteristics. Keep in mind that fuel after purchase can be stored for no more than 60 days, and it is better to reduce this period.

Polyethylene canisters are not used for storage, t. к. Static electricity will be generated by contact with the internal walls. An accidental spark will cause an explosion. Although, there are special plastic canisters marked “flame.
