In addition, the drawbar cylinder with pivoting clips can increase traction and transfer the cultivator’s own weight to the tractor’s rear axle.
For optimum levelling PÖTTINGER offers the maintenance free pairs of hollow discs which run deep behind the packer roller. This makes it unnecessary to readjust the working depth. Roller and harrow
The twin-roller harrow allows a good levelling, consolidation and crumbling of the soil. The 530 mm diameter roller is well resistant to heavy loads and difficult operating conditions. A harrow is installed behind the roller. This is ideal for final levelling before sowing and distributing harvest residues.
Height-adjustable harrow levellers are mounted in front of the packer roller to level out furrows left by the ripper tines. These levellers are easy to adjust, completely maintenance-free and economical in terms of wear characteristics.

Despite the ability to withstand considerable loads, coulters and tines periodically need to be replaced. Unusual situations in the form of large stones can happen during the work of the cultivator. This is why there is only one strong bolt to fix the tine to the frame. This saves time for replacement of defective parts.

Thanks to the combined construction, the cultivator performs this task in just one pass. Three rows of tines follow the lancet tines that loosen the soil to a depth of 6 to 15 cm and incorporate crop remains and lift weeds. The harrows break up small clods and level the field. The following roller with active slats closes the loop. Its task is to form as loose a layer as possible, which prevents moisture from escaping from the soil through capillaries. The roller has no center shaft, which makes it easy to work in wet conditions and with large amounts of crop residue. After the passage of the roller the water, air and heat balance of the field are as though conserved until the next seasonal work. The roller is easily adjustable in height or can be skipped if the soil is too wet.
And who are the weeds? There is none and there is none and there is none and there is none and there is none!
Weed control takes place year-round. And if gardeners arm themselves with hoes, cultivators help to wage war against weeds in the fields.
These machines are on the battlefield long before the first shoots. After harvesting and discing, the cultivator lifts the weed roots to the surface of the field, and they dry out in the wind.
In spring one more cultivation is done to prevent survived weeds from growing. At this stage, the three rows of tine bars behind the wing shares act as a comb. They pull the weeds out of the furrows formed by the coulters and over the surface. At this stage it is very important that each row of tines operates at a different angle of attack (20°, 25°, 30°) and penetrates the soil at different depths. These parameters can be changed to suit the application conditions. You can also use a spring loading mechanism (from 40 to 80 kg). In this way, by evenly distributing the load on the tines of the spring harrow, maximum efficiency can be achieved.
Cultivator is not only a set of tools. But also a whole complex of systems and mechanisms designed to support the stable operation of the machine.
The wheels on the cultivator, for example, play a key role. The front wheels are equipped with an L-shaped fork that provides the required maneuverability and consequently prevents the front row of tines from sinking in. Access to the wheels is made as easy as possible for easy access and maintenance.
Dual balancer wheels keep the machine in balance and ensure a smooth ride, especially when driving across the furrow. Regardless of the degree of penetration of the support wheels into the soil, the working depth can be adjusted and the working depth can be made uniform across the entire working width by means of the central and wing adjustment bars.
A floating hitch offered as a standard feature on R series cultivators compensates for unevenness in the field. Thanks to this movable connection, the trailed equipment can work parallel to the surface of the field regardless of the tractor’s movement, ensuring a constant working depth. The cultivator follows the terrain, preventing the wing shares from hanging upwards or, on the contrary, from sinking too deep when descending from an elevation.
A swivel joint between wing-frame and central frame of cultivator is designed for maximum contour following. Such hinge allows to repeat all the irregularities of the field within 10º up and 6º down and move the machine to transport position after the work.

A design of a cultivator determines the quality of its operation and costs of its implementation. The paper presents the results of theoretical and experimental studies on the determination of a construction arrangement of cultivators, the most efficiently performing seedbed preparation. Today, along with tine cultivators of the traditional construction, the machines, equipped with sweep and disk working bodies, have come into widespread acceptance. To enhance the efficiency of their application for preplant tillage it is necessary to analyze the impact of different ratios of sweep and disk working bodies on the work quality. In this case, you should take into account soil and landscape conditions, where you intend to use the unit. We examined the work of cultivators under conditions of Altai Krai. This goal is achieved by the analysis of construction arrangements, according to which the aggregates for the preplant treatment are made, as well as by the evaluation of the results of their work. For the experimental evaluation we used cultivators KD-720, APK-7.2, KPO-7.2, “Leader 7.2N”. The tests were carried out under the following conditions: loamy ordinary chernozem; soil hardness was not more than 3.5 MPa; moisture content was not more than 25 %; relief was smooth with a slope up to 3 degrees; the infestation with stones missed; the stubble height was no more than 25 cm.
