Which tillers are best for a power tiller??

Such “knives” for tillage can be conditionally divided into two large groups. Each of them has its own features and is suitable for a certain type of work.

Saber-shaped cutter to a power tiller

The most popular and versatile models, which are effective in carrying out various earthworks. These models use the optimal form of knives, for the manufacture of which manufacturers choose high quality durable steel.

The models have a collapsible design, so their installation and maintenance is as simple as possible.

Another popular variety of cutter for a motor-block is “virgin”, which is in great demand due to its spiral shape. A distinctive feature of this type is its one-piece construction, which allows it to cope with even enormous loads without problems.

The main disadvantage is the slow operation, as well as the fact that in the process of tillage the soil is pushed out, resulting sometimes in small pits.

As for the advantages, there are a huge number, among which it is possible to allocate the following:

  • unlike other varieties of tillers for power tillers copes well with virgin soil;
  • characterized by an impressive depth of cultivation;
  • allows you to qualitatively treat the soil;
  • is characterized by monolithic construction, which is a sign of reliability, strength and durability.

How to correctly work with a cultivator and tiller

Milling/cultivation of garden plots is the first and fundamental stage in soil treatment, which opens a new season of agricultural works. Cultivator, to date, is the most cost-effective and efficient tool to address this issue.

But new users of the cultivator have a number of questions:

  • What type of cultivator tiller is best to buy?
  • How to mount the tiller correctly on a single axle tractor?
  • How to work properly with a cultivator and tiller on a power tiller?

In this article we will try to give comprehensive answers to the most common questions that arise during the use of a cultivator.

How to install a tiller on a single axle tractor

Tilling the land is an important process for a good harvest. Today a large variety of equipment is used for this process, which allows to automate the processing of. A single-axle tractor is a kind of multifunctional specialized equipment used for small area plots cultivation. It can be equipped with various additional equipment. How to mount a tiller on a single axle tractor we will tell you further. You can watch this process in the video on AgroMotoCenter’s YouTube channel by clicking here

Working with tillers on a power tiller. How to install the tiller, types of tools and rules of work

Cultivation, or milling the soil, is the basic and one of the main processes that a single-axle tractor performs. The essence of cultivation is to crumble the soil and mix it to a depth of 30-40 cm. Depending on the type and model of power tiller. Proper tillage depends on the quality of soil, the controllability of your power tiller, the application of the operator’s efforts, and the load on the engine and transmission. That is why you should not ignore the rules of linkage and cultivation.

Working the tiller on a power tiller helps control weeds. Also the tiller is responsible for the structure of cultivated soil: large or small lumps of soil. Please note that such a tool can cope with very heavy and virgin soils, it is only necessary to choose the right attachment.

Power tillers come in different types and kinds, and can differ dramatically from each other. They differ in shape and design, as well as the number and arrangement of blades.

Conventionally, all tools can be divided into 2 large categories according to the type of the working body:

Sabre knives are often called standard tillers, because they are the most common and popular choice. This attachment is often supplied with power tillers and tractors as standard equipment. Its versatility explains its widespread use: it can be used on almost any type of soil. The sabre-shaped blades of the tiller are made of very hard, high-quality carbon steel. In addition, this cutter has a collapsible design, so the installation, maintenance and transportation of the tool is as simple as possible. The steel from which the blades are made is completely immune to welding work. To improve the mechanical properties of the product, during production, they use the so-called thermal hardening. The steel is treated with high-frequency currents for strength.

Working with a goosefoot tiller is very effective when cultivating virgin or hard soils. Such a tool has been used relatively recently. Good for stony soils. The tiller’s solid construction makes it very reliable and durable. The gooseneck tiller is made from ordinary carbon steel, but the advantage is that the tool can be welded and repaired.

So if you have to work in heavy and difficult soils. choose the goose-foot type. If the soil is not difficult, strong, reliable and durable sabre-toothed blades are enough.

Now let’s see how to work with a tiller on a power tiller. It’s not a hard process, but it takes practice. At first you will think that the single-axle tractor is unruly, the cultivation depth is not deep enough, it’s too hard to work. Take our experience. All this is only temporary. With a little patience and practice you will be delighted.

When working with a gooseneck tiller, a coulter must be installed in the rear bracket of the power tiller. It has to be fixed in the middle position. And then when you operate the machine you adjust the final depth. It will depend on the density and quality of the soil.

Pay attention to this issue, because both your comfort and the quality of cultivated land will depend on the correct adjustment of the coulter. It often happens that the single axle tractor “digs in place”, shows an insufficient cultivation depth or that you have to exert a lot of effort. It is the correct coulter adjustment that solves these problems. Remember that you must not push, pull, push or pile on the single-axle tractor, it will do all the work, and you only have to guide and control it.

So, after setting the coulter to central position (before starting cultivation) start the machine and warm up the engine for a few minutes. Now turn on the first speed, add revolutions, smoothly engage the clutch and, without resting the coulter on the ground, drive the single-axle tractor to the initial position for milling. Do not be afraid to roll the single-axle tractor on the cutters. Nothing will happen to them because they are designed for those situations.

Now turn on the second speed, set the maximum speed and smoothly engage the clutch. The tines will start to go in and burrow into the soil, and the single axle tractor will follow them. Pay attention to the type and condition of the soil. If the ground is hard, you should perform cultivation at first speed, at high engine speed.

To adjust the depth of loosening with the power tiller, press the handlebars lightly against the ground. This causes the opener to dig into the ground harder and slows the single axle tractor down. This increases the cultivation depth accordingly. If the correct depth is not achieved, the coulter should be lowered in the shoulder.

When loosening the soil on the “bayonet shovel” you need to slowly rock the single-axle tractor to the sides. This will cause the gearbox to move deep and to the sides so it won’t hit the uncultivated soil.

We want to remind you that you should always work with straight back and hands at waist level. This way you will be comfortable, you can work with the tiller of the power tiller for a long time and will not bring any harm to your health.

Gradually working with the tiller on the power tiller will become easy for you. You will get used to the process and it will be quick and easy. Then you can go to the side of the tiller for example by twisting its handles so you don’t step on the soil already tilled, or come up with other improvements for a better and more effective cultivation of agricultural land.

How to correctly assemble the cutters on a single axle tractor?

Assembly of the cutter may cause some difficulties, especially if you do it for the first time and by yourself.

First we have to explain the basic shape of the tiller.

The drawing below shows its main constituent elements:

  • rotary axle (comes in different lengths, can be solid and detachable);
  • pin with a retainer;
  • blades (right and left)
  • structural fastening elements (nuts, washers and bolts).

Also, do not forget the fact that the movement of the blades during work is counterclockwise. Be careful when assembling the module. any deviation in the design will lead to the fact that the axle will be out of balance, the unit will be skidded to the side while working.

Which cutters are best

Saber-type cutters are suitable for any soil. For areas with rocks and large roots it is recommended to use high performance attachments. In active cutters, the blades do not break because of the quality of the manufacturing material. cutting elements are characterized by maximum reliability, strength and durability. Cutters are installed on cultivators.

Goosefoot is characterized by high passability of the cutter on the virgin soil, untouched by agricultural machinery, as a result of which the soil is easily and quickly processed, the ground lump is thoroughly crushed, mixed at a depth of 30-40 cm. They are convenient for working stony and hard types of land, weed control, and are installed on both motor cultivators and power tillers.

The disadvantage of the tool is less strength. During operation, blades should be constantly inspected for damage and repaired. Goosefoot material does not have such high strength characteristics as alloyed or high-carbon steel, nevertheless it lends itself well to welding processes. In the event of breakage or cracking of the cutting elements, the product can be repaired at home at minimal cost. This quality is a major advantage when choosing a cutter.

Centaur single axle tractor cutter: value, application

Cutter for the Kentavr power tiller when working breaks up large clods of soil, allows you to comprehensively process the soil, which is the main task of the device.

The cutter consists of blades (made of strong steel), which are bolted to the frame. The frame itself is presented in the form of the so-called “herringbone”.

It should also be noted that the active tiller for the power tiller allows first-class processing of the ground, and with minimal labor costs.

What is cheaper and economical: the cost of equipment and maintenance

In addition to the above criteria, to compare the two mechanisms, you need to consider the cost of operation and repair. A single-axle tractor is more expensive than its little brother, especially electric models. Cultivators are unpretentious in operation, there is almost nothing to break, low gasoline consumption. It is expensive to fix, to buy add-on parts for a power tiller, it is not cheap to fill it up.

In terms of cost, not such a cardinal difference in the average single-axle tractor is 2 times more expensive, if we compare similar in power models. This is due to a more complex design and a better engine. So soil cutter with 6 liters.с. costs in the region of 250. And a single-axle tractor 500 The electric variety will cost 100. and petrol 200. diesel is even more expensive.
