How to put gas on your chainsaw

Adjusting the carburetor of a chainsaw by yourself

A chainsaw is an indispensable tool in a private home. That’s why its uninterrupted operation is very important. Quality work of a chainsaw depends in no small measure on how effectively the carburetor performs its functions. Let’s try to figure out how to adjust the carburetor on a chain saw on your own.

Causes of Startup Failures

For search of failures typical for ICE there are developed algorithms, which help to find and eliminate failures with a small expenditure of working time.

In a more simple variant it is an excess of fuel in the combustion chamber that impedes the ignition of the mixture, unregulated clearance in the spark plug, air drain in the fuel system

Also not excluded disconnection of the carburetor’s flap control actuator, contamination of jets and the presence of water condensate in the float chamber.

Diagnose and Identify Malfunctions

The efficiency of repair depends on the correct diagnosis, because the sharp definition of difficulty will save time on repairs. If your Partner chainsaw isn’t working, there are three steps to diagnosis:

In most cases, chainsaw problems are related to the fact that either there is nothing to flame, or there is nothing to ignite. Therefore, you must first check the plug, which requires its removal, and the wire attach to the cylinder, and then pull the starter. No spark can be due to defective spark plug, broken wires in the power supply circuit, a faulty ignition button or lack of clearance between the flywheel and coil (and probably a breakage of the flywheel key from the crankshaft). Because of the lack of spark chainsaw can be started, but suddenly stops when you press the gas.

If you have a spark, check the fuel system, especially if the spark plug was found to be dry. Diagnosis is as follows. Pour 5 ml of fuel through the spark plug hole and then start the saw. If the start is bad, it is probable wear of the cylinder head, foreign body in it. If it starts, the problem may be the carburetor or fuel line malfunction.

Your Partner chainsaw is diagnosed with a crankshaft bearing play check. To do this, it is necessary to move the flywheel in different directions. If there is a gap, the bearings need to be replaced.

Other malfunctions are also possible, but can be solved with your own hands. For example the saw does not pick up speed or the chain is not lubricated. The first problem is related to the wrong carburetor adjustment, and the second. with clogged hoses or lack of oil in the fuel consistency.

How to Use the Chainsaw Rust

Starting without a starter

Often many home handymen wonder whether the chainsaw can be started without the help of the starter. The answer is very simple: it is not possible in principle.

None of the manufacturers provide any other alternative starting methods. So even if you remove the starter and try to start the car in some other way, it will still not work, since the cooling system will be broken. This system has a snail to transfer cold air flow from the flywheel impeller to the cylinder side. If it is not, the engine will overheat and eventually seize up.

How to start and fuel a chainsaw

Starting the chainsaw according to the instructions

It should be noted that different chainsaws have different starting methods. Let us take the STIHL MS chain saw as an example and show you how to start it. If you have another make of chain saw, try to start it in a similar way, because most likely the mechanism of your saw is the same or only slightly different. Before we start, we’d like to draw your attention to the paragraph in the manual that says that the emergency brake should be on before starting the saw. This is suggested because of safety considerations. But this makes starting the chainsaw a lot more difficult, so let’s disengage it. If you’re careful, it won’t hurt you when you start it up. If you have any reason to be afraid that a chain saw without a brake lock can hurt you when it starts, it’s better not to use it at all. Let’s start. The first thing to do before starting the chainsaw is to move the choke adjustment lever to the lower position (Fig.1). Please note that this lever is pushed all the way down on the chain saw only when the throttle trigger is depressed. So we press the gas button and move the lever down. That closes the choke in the carburetor and keeps the throttle in the down position.

Why the chainsaw makes noise?

All chainsaws have only one serious disadvantage. it’s noise when working, which in some places (country houses, homesteads) disturbs and irritates many people. If the noise from the chain saw can make it hard to concentrate then it is also possible to use headphones, which can filter out the noise. But the same will not be all around in headphones while someone makes noise.

A clogged or unrepaired muffler is the reason that the engine constantly stops or won’t start at all.

It often happens that the chainsaw works well at a low rpm but as soon as you increase the throttle it sneezes and shuts down. The cause is usually that the exhaust cannot pass through a clogged muffler and is forced to move in the opposite direction. All you have to do is to take it off and clean it, if it is dismantled of course, if not you will have to dry it with hot air using a hair dryer.

The most important cause of contamination of the muffler is the excessive amount of oil that is diluted with petrol and as a consequence settles on its walls.

If you have decided to clean the non-dismountable muffler by yourself, keep in mind that you should not do it dry using the same hair dryer, because the hazardous substances are extremely harmful to health.

Although most chain saw producers try to muffle engine noise as much as possible, it does not do any good and it affects the power of the machine in the first place.

Professional chainsaws, such as Husqvarna, for example, can not work quietly at all, as the power and speed are very high, which leads to a lot of noise. Trying to muffle the roar of the motor yourself while maintaining high performance is extremely difficult. But there are people who use an ordinary bucket of water and a plastic tube, one end dipped in water and the other end screwed to the exhaust pipe. There is efficiency from such actions, the sound of the motor becomes quieter.

Disassembling the clutch and oil pump drive

You must disassemble the drive sprocket before disassembling the clutch. To do this, carefully remove the lock washer from the grooves on the shaft and remove the sprocket and needle bearing.

High head 19, unscrewing the clutch. The thread stays on it, so it’s unscrewed to the bar and not behind the STIHL 180.

After unscrewing and removing the clutch should immediately remove the deflector plate and pump oil from the pump, it’s easy to do, because they put on a shaft without fasteners.

Chapter 7: Fueling Your STIHL Chainsaw

.To start the chain saw following the manual

Starting can vary from chainsaw to chainsaw. Let’s analyze two most popular mechanisms, which are used to start the chainsaw nowadays. Let’s take the STIHL MS 180 and the Echo CS-352ES chain saws as an example. If you have a different make of chain saw, just try it by analogy, because chances are you have the same or a similar mechanism.

Before we begin the starting procedure, I’d like to note that in some chainsaws instructions it is written that before starting the chain saw, the emergency brake should be on. They say it’s safer. However, it is more difficult to start the chain saw if the brake is fixed, so it is better to unlock the brake. If you do it right, it won’t hurt you when you’re starting up. If you are afraid that without a brake lock the chainsaw can hurt you when you try to start it, then it is better not to take up this tool at all.

The first thing to do before starting this chainsaw is to move the throttle control lever to the down position (Fig.1). Note that this lever moves all the way down on the chainsaw only when the throttle button is pressed. So clamp the throttle trigger and push the lever down. That closes the choke on the carburetor and keeps the gas on the chain saw in the down position.

Now let’s take apart the second second mechanism that allows you to start the chainsaw.
