Installing the zilow compressor on the engine d 240
Header. The engine is from Zilow
Hello dear readers of my blog ZIL. 130. 431410. Today we will talk about how to install a compressor on a diesel engine ZIL-130 d-240.The compressor is source of compressed air for the pneumatic actuator of the car braking systems, as well as to supply other consumers.
To begin with, we remove the original compressor from the engine d-240. We are left with an open hatch with a drive and a gear. At the old place of the compressor we need to install the metal plate. This will be a platform for the Zilov compressor. We make the plate from iron with a thickness of 0.8-1 cm size (24×19) cm.fig. 1
We make holes in the plate for stud bolts, cut them and put bolts. On these studs we will fix our plate. Further we fix a plate, put the compressor on top and mark holes for pins to fix the compressor. Drilling, tapping, studding. Before final installing the plate, make a gasket under it. Let’s make it out of paronite. Mark it, cut it, preferably with sealant on both sides. We have installed the plate, tightened the nuts and put the compressor from above, it is now on the studs, like on a skid, moves left and right to tension the belt. photo

The next thing is the pulley adapter
It would be better to make it out of aluminum sleeves. To make it easier for the engine to turn and not lose power, as I did. photo
belt pulley to drive the compressor pulley to drive the compressor
I gathered all kinds of aluminum, gave it to the foundry for remelting and then to the turner with the dimensions. I can give you mine. picture 2
On the pulley in the front make 4 threaded holes to mount the fan. The fan I took a Volga, it is smaller than the native one, but the engine heats up faster and it is enough to cool the engine. Now the compressor is installed, pulley under the belt is ready, tension for the belt is there, we can install everything in its place tension the belt. install fan on pulley.
Oil inlet and drain
Take oil approach from engine block on the left side under the compressor as shown on the photo and bring it to the compressor on the crankshaft. All this is connected by a hose. We take compressor drain from compressor casing and run hose up to oil filler neck. In a cover we drill a hole, put connector for a hose and put on hose as shown on photo. After everything is assembled and checked, it is possible to test the compressor in operation.

Block crankcase. There can be cracks and chips, thread breakage on the compressor block during operation. If there are any cracks on the block, it should be replaced.Crankshaft. In case of wear, the ball bearings should be pressed out and replaced by others.Connecting rod. If there is substantial wear on the top head of the connecting rod, ream the hole to a diameter of 14,000-14,019 and press the repair bushing.Cylinder head. Check head for leaks and warpage. Tightness of the air cavity is checked with compressed air at 1 MPa, liquid cavity. at 0.4 MPa in a water bath.Rear crankcase covers. Runout of cap end face at the mating point with seals is acceptable up to 0.06 mm. The end of the cap should rest snugly against the tapered portion of the back cover gasket.
When servicing the compressor, be sure to check that the nuts holding the compressor to the motor are properly tightened. After 100 thousand miles should remove the compressor head to clean the pistons, valves and seats. Valves that are leaking must be lapped to seats and heavily worn or damaged valves replaced. The new valves should also be lapped to the seats until a continuous ring contact is achieved during the checkup.

Changing oil in power steering ZIL-130
ZIL-130 power steering pump filters should be washed in petrol. If the filters are significantly clogged with tar sediment they must be additionally flushed with solvent, When installing hoses, do not twist them and sharply overDrain. When changing the oil disconnect longitudinal rod and open the cap on the power steering pump reservoir. To drain the oil you must:1) turn the steering wheel to the left as far as it will go:2) open the drain hole by unscrewing the plug with a magnet from the steering housing. The oil drain is complete when there is no longer any oil leakage from the steering gear oil drain hole. After draining you need toClean the connections and hoses daily to ensure air tightness, but do the following:1) Remove any residual oil from the power steering pump reservoir;2) Flush washer 24 (see also: 1) Remove any oil from the pump reservoir;3) Clean the washer fluid reservoir. Fig. 55), rubber sealing ringThe cap 26 and the plug 32 of a drain hole (see Fig. Rice. 52) with a magnet of steering gear housing, clean them from dirt; remove and wash the filter screens and put them in place;3) pour 1 liter of fresh oil into the tank through the funnel with a double grid and drain it through the drain hole by turning the steering wheel from stop to stop;4) screw the plug with a magnet (with a sealing washer) in the drain5) with the steering wheel turned all the way to the left, pour fresh oil into the tank until it appears over the grid of the filler filter and turn the6) then start the engine and while it is idling rotate the steering wheel from stop to stop, keeping it briefly1) Press and hold the pump cap lever in extreme positions for 23 seconds with approx. 100 N (10 kgf) force, and top up oil as necessary until oil appears over the suction filter screen (no need to completely cover the screen with oil); the oil filling is completed when the system stops pumping air in the form of bubbles through the oil in the tank;7) Install the tank cap with a gasket, reCheck and tighten the cap gasket and washer and secure with the wing nut. The wing-nut should be tightened not more than hand effort. If oil leaks from under the cap, check that the cap gasket is properly installedIf the power steering system has failed as a result of damage to the control valve and if it is defective, replace it.In case of failure of hydraulic booster due to damage of threated8) Reattach the longitudinal traction rod to the nozzle, hose or pump drive belt rupture or in case of tuggingIf the vehicle is stopped due to an engine shutdown, you can only use the steering mechanism for a short time, until the malfunction is corrected. Continuous operation of the vehicle with a nonfunctioning hydraulic systemThe following actions should be taken when the power steering systemActions for power steering hoses rupture or breakage.
Actions in case of rupture of hoses of ZIL-130 power steering
If power steering pump hoses are ruptured: 1) Connect discharge port 13 (see “Connect the power steering pump hoses to the power steering pump” on page 16). Fig. 55) with a nozzle 18 on the pump tank;2) close the discharge and return holes on the hydraulic force3) Add oil to the pump reservoir to the level shown above; to the left side of the reservoir, use a wooden plug or other means to prevent dirt or foreign matter from entering; to the right side of the reservoir, use a rubber stopperThe manual brake pedal and the lever is attached to the lever to prevent accidental operation of the brake pedalSo before checking or adjusting the crankshaft, check the oil temperature in the oil tank, check the condition of the oil and check the condition of the steering linkagesto. If the oil is hot, stop the engine and check the oil level. If the steering wheel is out of alignment, the steering wheel lock can be releasedIf the steering system does not work properly, the cause of the malfunctions may be different. The oil level in the oil tank is as specified by the oil levelIf the steering mechanism is not working properly, check the wheel balance, tire pressure, lubricant in the steering units and wheel hubs, adjustment of the bearings of the steering wheel and the wheel hubs3) fill up oil reservoir and steering rods and correctness of their position, operation of shock absorbers, correctness of front wheel angles. It is also necessary to check the oil level in the booster pump tank and the tension of its belt, the absence of air in the system, sludge or dirt in the tank and on the pump filters, and oil leaks in the pipe connectionsTo adjust the steering linkage, see.The steering adjustment should be checked as follows1) Disconnect the steering link rod; 2) Measure with a spring dynamometer attached to the steering2) measure with a spring dynamometer attached to the steering wheel rim the effort on this rim in the following three steering wheel positions: Turned more than 2 turns from the center position the effort on the steering wheel rim shall be 5.5 13.5 N (0.55 1.35 kgf); Turned 3/4 of a turn 1The effort required for steering wheel adjustment must be checked to ensure that it is not greater than 23 N (2.3 kgf) after passing the centre position and that the effort on the steering wheel rim is 812.5 N (0.81.25 kgf) greater than the effort required for the steering wheel after passing the centre positionthe measured force in the second position, but not exceeding 28 N (2.8 kgf).If the forces measured in these positions do not correspond to the specified values, adjust the steering mechanicsIf the measured forces in these positions do not correspond to the specified values, the steering mechanism must be readjustedThe adjustment of the steering mechanism should be checked as follows:. Begin by setting the force in the third position with the set screw 30 (see “Adjustment of the steering mechanism”). Figure. 52), as it does not require disassembly of steering mechanism. The steering mechanism should be disassembled to disassemble the steering mechanism so that the rim force can be removed from the steering wheel. IncorrectThe force on the wheel rim in the second position is the same as in the figure belowIn the case of the first one, it is also caused by damaged parts of the ball nut assembly, and in the case of the first one, by incorrect preloading of the thrustball bearings 13.To adjust the force in the first position, partRemove the steering mechanism to tighten the nut 19.
Disassembly of steering mechanism of ZIL-130
You should disassemble and assemble steering mechanism of ZIL-130 only if it is necessary. Work should be performed by qualified mechanics in conditions of total cleanliness. To disassemble the steering mechanismThe steering unit should be removed from the vehicle and then:1) Unscrew nut 37 (see Fig. Fig. 52) and remove with a puller bipod (bipod chipping can cause damage to parts);2) unscrew the plug with a magnet and drain the oil, for more complete drainage turn the steering wheel 23 times from stop to stop;3) Disconnect the hoses, drain the remaining oil in the pump;4) Disconnect the driveshaft, removing the cotter pin, unscrewing nut wedge 8 (see “Inspection of the tightening of the stop ball bearings. Figure. 5) Remove the steering gear housing together with the six bolts that hold the steering gear housing to the chassis;6) Thoroughly clean and wash the outside surface of the steering gear;7) Drain the remaining oil by turning the steering gear with the valve down and rotating the bolt 23 times from one extreme position to the other. To disassemble and inspect the steering mechanism, proceed as follows.1. Remove the side cover together with the bipod shaft by removing the seven bolts. When taking out the bipod shaft you must grind its slotted end and be careful not to damage the oil seal and the O-ring.2. Remove the top cover by loosening the four bolts and being careful not to damage the packing case and o-ringring.3. Remove the control valve housing together with the screw, the rack piston and the intermediate cover by removing the six screws.4. Remove the bottom cover by removing the six bolts.5. Check tightness of the nut of thrust ball bearings. Check the axial displacement of the adjusting screw 30 (see )6. The torque required to rotate the control valve body relative to the screw must be 0.60.85 N • m (68.5 kgfm).6. In case of non-compliance with the p. 5 Adjust the nut tightening or if the ball bearings are damaged, replace them. To adjustIf the nut has not been tightened properly, first press the shoulder of the nut that is pressed into the groove in the screw; to prevent damage to the screw thread, unscrew the nut, clean the screw groove and the thread in the nut.The conical disk spring must be mounted between the ball bearing and nut with the concave side facing the ball bearingto adjust. After completing the tightening adjustment, the collar should be pushed into the groove of the screw without breaking, and the collar used should be rounded without sharp edges.7. Check the axial displacement of the adjusting screw 30 (see “Adjusting the axial displacement of the adjusting screw”). Figure. 52) in the bipod shaft. If the displacement exceeds 0.15 mm, replace the shim 27, bringing the displacement to 0.020.08 mm.8. Check that there is no axial movement of the ball nut fromIf necessary, tighten or remove the two adjusting screws on the rack piston. If necessary, retighten or tighten the screws and nuts and remove the intermediate coverIf necessary, remove the two setscrews and loosen them.9. Check the seating of the ball nut at the middle of the screw. The nut on the screw should rotate smoothly and the axial movement relative to the screw should not exceed 0.3 mm.10. If the conditions referred to in point “8” are not fulfilled, remove the two adjusting screws. 9, replace the balls or the whole set (ball nut and ball screw), for which purpose:a) unscrew the two set screws 42 securing the ball nut, using the special wrench with a large lever;b) take out of the rack and pinion ball nut with the screw, holding down the flats of thec) Remove the grooves and balls from the rack nut and with a twist of the screw relative to the nut remove the balls;d) Remove the intermediate cover.11. If the runner grooves of the nut or screw are damaged, replace them.12. If the set (nut and bolt with balls) is replaced, the parts must not be interchanged during assembly, since they are individually matched at the factory.13. In case of replacement for larger size only take ballsWhen assembling the steering mechanism, observe the following:. parts of the same size group (diversity of no more than 0.002 mm). Do not use ball ends, rags, or any other rags that leave lint on the partslead to balls breakage and jamming of the steering mechanism.14. After replacing the balls, the nut must be turned in the mediumof the screw under the torque of 0,30,8 N • m (38 kgf • the screws should be loose around the edges and the seat should be at an angle of at least 1 m (38 kgf).

Fig. 52), with screw grooveb) put 23 balls through the hole on the shoulder of the screwa. Slide the intermediate cover and nut onto the underside of the collarless end of the screw, aligning the hole in the nut by turning the screw counterclockwise; insert eight balls into the grooves folded together and preventing them from coming out of thec) put the grooves with balls in the nut, turning the screw if necessary, and tie the nut to prevent the grooves from falling out of the nut;d) check the torque of the nut on the middle part of the screw and if necessary replace the balls;e) screw the set screws 42 (see Fig. 1), and if necessary replace the balls in the middle part of the screw. Figure. 52) [torque their tighteningThis torque is 5060 N • m (56 kgf • m)]; first tighten one screw and then the other and deburr each screw in two places against the groovewok in the nut.If the groove in the piston-rack matches the slot in the screw on thethe last one must be replaced. Screws or metal protruding over the cylindrical surface of the striker piston are not permitted, because this would cause scoring of the ram cylinder and the control valve bodyThe screws or metal protruding after nicking over the cylindrical surface of the rack piston are not permitted, as it will cause scoring of the power steering cylinder.Piston ring lugs must be at a 90° angle to the piston ring? the two screws or metal studs must not protrude over the cylindrical surface of the power steering cylinder.6. Do not compromise when reassembling the spool, the reagent, the brake cylinder, the valve, and the piston ringthe control valve body and plugs, because they have been matched to theindividually at the factory. When reassembling the control valve, make sure that the notch on the spool end faces upward from the middle shoulder of the screw, and the chamfer on the reactive plungers 40 outward. Slide valve and reactive plungers must move in the valve body of the controlPolo shaft packing must be protected against damage when reassembled.7. The bipod shaft packing must be protected against damage during assembly8. Finally the stuffing box gland 34 (cf. Figure. 52) bipods perPress together with the stop ring 35, the lip ring 36, the washer and the locking ring until the snap ring snaps into the groove. The stop ring should enter the whole circumference of the crankcase groove.8. When the steering mechanism is assembled, apply additional torque to both sides after turning the steering screw 7 until the piston stopsThe torque to the propeller, achieving axial displacement of the propeller. The springs 39 must be able to return it to its original positiontension.9. Adjust the adjusting screw 30 so that when passing through the middle position the torque of screw 7 is greater than the torque before adjustment by 1.01.5 N • m (1015 kgf • see). When passing through the intermediate position the torque should not exceed 5 N • m (50 kgf • cm). After adjusting the screw 30, fasten it with a locknut (torque 4045 N • m (44.5 kgf • m)) and then toCheck the torque of the steering screw.10. From one end position to the other the bipartite shaft must be turned with a maximum torque of 80 N • m (8 kgf • м). Tighten the bipod shaft nut to a torque of 360-400 N • m (3640 kgf • м).
Disassembly procedure of power steering pump of ZIL-130
Before disassembly the pump must be removed from the vehicle by first draining the oil, cleaning and flushing the outside surface. Order to deactivateThe following is the general procedure for removing and inspecting the pump.1. Remove reservoir cap and filters.2. Remove the reservoir by unscrewing four bolts.3. Position the pump so that the pump shaft is oriented verticallyRemove the pulley at the bottom, and remove the pump cover by loosening the four bolts. When removing the cover, keep the valve from falling out.4. Mark the position of the spreading disc in relation to the stator and remove it from the pins.5. Mark the position of the stator relative to the pump body and remove the stator (the arrow on the stator indicates the direction of rotation of the pump shaft).6. Remove the rotor with the vanes. The stator, rotor, and vanes of the pump are individually matched at the factory, so they must not be interchanged7) Check that the pump is complete when it is disassembled and swap vanes. If any of the stator, rotor, vanes or blades have been individually selected at the factory, their comThe stator, rotor and vanes must be replaced as a complete set,7. Only if absolutely necessary, remove pulley, circlip and shaft together with front bearing.8. Check that the by-pass valve can be moved easily in the bonnetThe pump must be replaced as a complete unit and must be inspected for nicks or wear.Valve and pump cover are individually matched at the factory, so do not disassemble if necessary. If necessary, deburr or replace complete parts.9. Check seat fastening 15 (see Section 5.2.2. Figure. 55) Safety relief valve; retighten if necessary.10. Check all component passages for debris and clean passages.11. Check the steering link rod adjustment and steering control for scoring or wear on the end faces of the auxiliary end faces5065 N rotor, housing and spreader disc. In case of insignificantIf there is any signs of galling or wear, lapping these surfaces on the plate and then rinsing them thoroughly.12. Check whether the blades move freely in the rotor grooves and are not excessively worn.
Assembly of power steering pump ZIL-130
Assemble the pump in the following order.1. Install the stator, rotor and vanes, and shimrodisc in accordance with the disassembly marks and rotation direction arrow. Check that the chamfer of the slotted section of the rotor blades is not excessively wornThe rotor shaft must face the pump casing.2. Install cover with bypass valve. Valve seat hex should be facing in toward the inside of the bore.3. Tightening torque of the bolts fixing the tank should be 68 N • m (0,60,8 kgf • м).4. Pump pulley nut tightening torque should beCheck that the slot chamfer of the slotted holes in the rotor and the housing is not excessively worn • m (56.5 kgf • м),5. Pump shaft must rotate freely without catching.
Checking pressure exerted by pump
A special tool is installed to check the pressure developed by the pump. Have a pressure gauge with a scale of up to 8000 kPa (80 kgf/cm2) and a valve that closes the oil supply to the hydraulicto the power steering unit.
To check the valve and turn the wheel to the stop; oil pressure at low idle engine speed should be at least 6000 kPa (60 kgf/cm2). If less, turn the valve slowly back on the pressure gauge while watching for an increase in pressure. If the pump is working properly the pressure shouldIf the pump is operating properly, the pressure should be at least 6,500 kPa (65 kgf/cm2). In this case the pump is defectivethe problem is in the steering mechanism. If the pressure does not increase, the pump is defective. If the pressure when the valve is closed is greater than the pressure when the valve is open, but less than 6000 kPa (60 kgf/cm2), the fault ison both units. Do not hold valve closed for more than 15 secondsThe vehicle has hydraulic power steering and the steering wheel is turn to the stop. The test must be carried out at a temperature oftemperature of oil in the tank is 6575 C. If necessary the oil can be warmed up by turning the wheels from stop to stop and holdingand holding it against the endstops for no longer than 15 seconds each time.Check for free steering movement while the engine is idling by rocking the steering wheel back and forth until the steering wheel begins to turn. Free play of steering wheelNo more than 25° of the steering wheel may be felt when the engine is idling, and no more than 15° of the steering wheel on a new vehicle.Free play of the steering wheel should be checked on the vehicle with the front wheel in idle positionCheck the condition and condition of the wheel. If there is more than the maximum allowable slack in the steering wheel, it is necessary to determine which component is responsible for the increased slack, and in order to do this check the condition and condition of the steering wheel and the steering wheelAdjust steering linkage, steering linkage adjustmentCheck the clearances in the steering joints and the tightness of the PTO shaft mounting wedges. If any adjustment of the steering mechanism or tie rods is defective, the unit must be repairedscrew. If there is excessive play in the joints, the driveshaft must be replaced or repaired. If the steering linkage or tie rods are out of adjustment, have the assembly repairedCheck the tightness of the nut 19 of the thrust bearings (see pic. Fig. 52).Axial displacement of the steering wheel is not permissible. If there is axial movement of the steering wheel, retighten the nut. previously unbent the tabs of the locking washer. After resettingOne of the tendons should be bent into the groove of the nut. If the steering shaft is uncoupled from the PTO shaft, the torque must be 0.30.8 N • m (38 kgf • see).Nut 1 is overtightened (see “Adjusting the steering mechanism or control rods” on page 54). The steering linkage consists of a longitudinal and transverse steering rod.The steering link rod is tubular, with adjustable ball jointswith the hinges. When re-assembling the joint, tighten the adjusting plugsteering linkages should be kept in place by hand and then released to the first possible position for cottering (but not less than 1/4 turn) and cottering should be performed by hand without jamming. Should be rememberedNote that full elimination of the joint clearance is not permissible, as this could result in damage to the ball stud or the tie rod.The tubular transverse steering rod has left and right-hand threads at the ends for screwing ball joint sockets that can be used to adjust the rod lengthAdjust the front toe-in and the front toe-out when reassembling. The ball joints do not need to be adjusted. When reassembling, make sure the ball pins are alignedcotter pins were pulled out by hand without seizing. Tightening torque of ball joint nutsThe torque of the longitudinal and transverse steering rods is 230270 Nm (2,327 kgf • м).Regularly check and tighten all fasteners, check condition of joints of longitudinal and transverse steering rods, and, if necessary, adjust clearance in the joint of the longitudinal steering rod.
Troubleshooting of steering ZIL-130

Piston-type, two-section air compressor 130-3509015 (Fig. 1) presses air into pneumatic system of machine (T-150, ZIL-130, K-700). Mounted on engine and driven from engine crankshaft by V-belt drive. The air inlet to the compressor cylinders is through the inlet slotted valves (pos. 22) from air filter. Then air is compressed by pistons (pos. 11) and is displaced into the pneumatic system through the discharge valves (pos. 15), which are located in the cylinder head.
If air pressure in the pneumatic system exceeds 7.65 kgf/cm2, then the pressure regulator is actuated. The air is supplied to the unloader channel (pos. 25) by raising the rams (pos. 31) of intake valves (pos. 22) and opening inlet valves of two cylinders. As a result, there is free air movement through the cylinders and air supply to the pneumatic system is stopped. When system air pressure drops to 6.0 kgf/cm2, air is vented from under the rams by the pressure regulator to the atmosphere. Plungers under the influence of the springs fall, the inlet valves return to their places, and the compressor pumps air into the pneumosystem.
The rubbing surfaces of the T-150, ZIL-130, K-700 compressor are supplied with oil from the oil gallery through a pipe to the rear cover (pos. 18) of the crankcase (pos. 1). If the compressor begins to operate with a knocking sound that is caused by excessive clearance between the crankshaft journals and bearings, the connecting rod bearing shells should be replaced.
When the compressor is running, it may overheat due to insufficient oil supply, as well as clogged air ducts. If there is insufficient pressure in the system provided by the compressor, it is necessary to check the condition of pipelines, their connections, as well as to check for leaks valves.
